Join us at Fort Donelson National Battlefield as we wind up the summer with two exciting programs.
August 6th, 10:00am, 11:30am and 1:00pm
Fort Donelson National Park Visitor Center, 120 Fort Donelson Park Road, Dover, TN.
“Skirmish at Fort Donelson, August 1862.”
Volunteers and Park Rangers will share the story of the late summer Confederate assault on the small Union garrison in Dover, TN. Flush from his re-taking of Clarksville, Confederate Col. Thomas Woodward’s attention would turn to capturing Dover, TN. Artillery demonstrations and interpretive talks will be held next to the Fort Donelson National Park Visitor Center.

September 3rd, 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm
River Batteries, (Tour Stop #4)
“With Picks & Shovels: Defending the Cumberland”
The formidable seacoast artillery batteries on the Cumberland River just did not materialize overnight. Much planning by Confederate engineers and installation of heavy ordnance, combined with hours of drill by volunteer soldiers, went into the creation of these river batteries. This unique program will highlight some of the engineering feats involved in its construction and costumed interpreters will share stories about the difficult work that took place here over 160 years ago.
