Battle Of Paris Commemoration & Living History 2024

Paris, Tenn.–The 2024 Battle of Paris Commemoration and Living History event will be held in downtown Paris Saturday March 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and everyone is invited.
Event Chairman James Swor said, “Just as the name infers, we are remembering the Civil War battle that took place just west of our Court Square in Paris on March 11, 1862.

“In our inaugural event in 2023, we featured a collection of living historian experts, period reenactors, and demonstrations of Antebellum life.  The public loved it.  This year we have expanded upon our initial success to bring more of everything to the event.  Our target audience is school age children, families, and adults from West Tennessee and Kentucky.”

Organizers are particularly excited this year with a visit and demonstration from the Porter’s Battery cannon and crew of Clarksville. Porter’s Battery was commanded by Captain, Thomas Kennedy Porter Jr., the younger brother of Governor James D. Porter.
Swor said, “Both men were natives of Paris and the historical connection is an exciting  promotional opportunity for our audience.”
Perry’s BBQ will be on site with their food truck.

The Henry County Tourism Authority has generously consented to support this event, Swor said.
