Paris, Tenn.–Some 250-300 people gathered on the Henry County Courthouse lawn Tuesday night for a “Take A Stand” rally which included speakers, voter registration, prayer, singing and marching around the court square.

One of the speakers, Brother Andre Richardson told the crowd, “We are here in peaceful protest…I don’t know which boat you came over on but now we are all here and we are all in the same boat together.”

Several city officials were in attendance, with Vice Mayor Jackie Jones welcoming the crowd. “We are sharing a planet and for us to be successful on all levels, we have to respect each other,” she said.

Speaker James Benau encouraged everyone to register to vote. “What we are doing here doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t vote.”

Organizer Jennifer Lee said the rally was a definite success and thanked everyone for their attendance.
