Paris, Tenn.–At a special called meeting of the Paris City Commission Thursday evening, the Paris Utility Authority was officially formed by unanimous vote.
The commission meeting was held over Facebook Live.
The first meeting of the Authority will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 18. The meeting will be held over Zoom conferencing video.
Paris Commission Member Terry Fuller–who also sits on the Paris Board of Public Utilities board–said, “It’s been a long time coming.”
The creation of the Paris Utility Authority was first introduced by Paris Board of Public Utilities General Manager Terry Wimberley, who said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the BPU and city.
Creation of the new Authority will be a ‘positive move’ for both BPU and the city, he said, while allowing BPU to have more flexibility to expand to potential markets such as Telecom and Broadband for the community.
