Henry Farmers Co-op To Close Retail Operation

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Paris, Tenn.—The Henry Farmers Co-op will be closing its existing retail space and reopen a wholesale space in the former Holley Carburetor building.
The Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission approved a revised site plan Thursday evening for the wholesale/bulk space that will be opened at 225 Hwy. 69N.
City Economic Development Director Jennifer Morris said the Co-op has demolished an area of the former Holley building on the south end of the existing building. “In doing so, they have closed in that end of the building and propose to use the space for the checkout area for their bulk feed and seed business that has been operating in that facility” in recent months.
A question arose at last month’s meeting as to whether or not this would be classified as ‘retail’ since it is located in an M-2 district and retail is not allowed. Co-op officials said the new facility will not be a true retail store, but a wholesale/bulk type of business.
Since last month’s meeting, the Co-op also has addressed concerns regarding the entrance to the facility and Morris said it now meets code. Proposed parking also is adequate.

In other business:
–The commission approved the Hunters Pointe Phase 4 preliminary plat submitted by Lonny Noble. This will be the final phase of the project and it will extend the main street, which is called Winding Way, from the Foxfire subdivision to Harding Rd. as originally proposed. Phase 4 includes lots 53 through 90 for a total 38 lots.
The commission approved the plat contingent on third party testing for compaction and engineers signing off on project.
–The commission also approved a site plan renewal for Chris Pitts Storage. Pitt requested a building permit for his last proposed building in his self-storage development on Hwy. 641S. The plat had been forwarded to engineers for review of draining and other requirements.
