McKenzie, Tenn.–As of today (March 30), Carroll County now has five positive cases for COVID-19 and McKenzie City Mayor Jill Holland announced the city has closed ALL parks (including disc golf, dog park, playground, fishing, the barn, and the splash pad, which includes the wooden train.)

In a statement issued Monday afternoon, Holland said:

“Today, the Governor issued Executive Orders 21 and 22. All non-essential businesses as listed below must be closed, effective at 11:59 p.m. March 31, 2020 . Barber shops, hair salons, waxing salons, threading salons, nail salons or spas, spas providing body treatments, body-art facilities or tattoo services, tanning salons, massage-therapy or message services.

“Entertainment and recreational gathering venues shall not be open to members or the public. These include but are not limited to: night clubs, bowling alleys, arcades, concert venues, theaters, auditoriums, performing arts centers, or similar facilities, racetracks, indoor children’s play areas, adult entertainment venues, amusement parks, roller or ice-skating rinks.

“Parents, it is important that you keep your children at home. We are getting calls regarding groups playing basketball, fishing, and playing sports on city property. All McKenzie City Parks are closed until further notice. Non-compliance is a Class C Misdemeanor. The city parks include: The McKenzie City Park (Como), Dog Park, Disc Golf, Mulberry, Downtown Veterans Park, Splash Pad, and Triangle (Hillcrest).

“Our restaurants are doing a great job of complying with the Governor’s order of offering take-out, curb-side and delivery service. Our gas stations are adjusting their hours in order to safely serve their customers, and our grocery stores are offering early hours for seniors and those most susceptible to the virus.

“I urge everyone to partner with us to stop the spread of this deadly virus and exercise extreme caution. Please remember that someone who appears healthy can be a carrier. It is so important to keep a social distance of at least 6 feet, wash your hands often, and do not touch your face.
We are all in this together, and with your help we will all get through this.

Please stay healthy and safe,
Mayor Jill Holland”
