Discovery Park Cancels April Events

Union City, Tenn.–Discovery Park of America CEO Scott Williams has announced that park officials have made the difficult decision to cancel public events that had been scheduled for April. This includes two of Discovery Park’s most popular events: the annual Easter Egg Hunt April 11 and the Military Living History and Civil War Days Weekend (April 24-26).
“We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause,” he said.
The following is the statement released by Williams:
“As the world confronts this period of challenge, we want to assure you we have taken immediate action to protect the health and well-being of our visitors, volunteers and staff.
Currently, we plan to open our doors on Wed., April 1, but we will wait and see where things stand next week and decide then. Focus on the health and safety of you and your families is our primary concern.
Of course, we want to continue implementing our mission online until we do open. The education team is sharing “Moments of Discovery” on Facebook. Today, we’ll begin posting a Discovery Park artifact a day with the primary lesson behind it, and we’re continuing to share an episode of “Reelfoot Forward: A West Tennessee Podcast” every Monday. If you have not listened to the recent episode with Dr. Cynthia A. Bond Hopson, I really recommend taking a moment and listening to it. She encourages individuals to slow down, seize the day and refocus on “who and whose they are.” We didn’t realize at the time just how timely her encouragement would be.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our public events scheduled for April. This includes our annual Easter Egg Hunt (April 11) and the Military Living History and Civil War Days Weekend (April 24-26). We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause.
As everything continues to evolve, we’ll be sharing updates like this one via our email list and we’ll be posting the latest information at DiscoveryParkofAmerica.com, and on Facebook and Twitter.”
