hcmc-2-3

Paris, Tenn. – An incident which began in Benton County resulted in the suicide of a visitor at Henry County Medical Center early Saturday morning.

Henry County Medical Center officials this morning issued a statement regarding the incident, noting, “The safety and security of all our partners, patients and visitors is our number one
priority at Henry County Medical Center. Unfortunately, we are faced with the knowledge that
an individual took his own life earlier this morning on our premises.”

Paris Police Captain Ricky Watson told us that the incident began as an accidental shooting in Benton Co. and the female victim was brought to the hospital. Paris Police were called by emergency room staff regarding the gunshot victim, he said.

One of the people who was with the gunshot victim walked off from where she was being treated and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.

Hospital CEO Lisa Casteel said: “First, this was a single person incident with no other involvement and with no injures to our staff.  We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of this individual. At this time we have no information as to why this incident occurred. We are thankful and grateful to the Paris Police Department for their commitment to this community and
especially to our organization.

“The individual who took his own life was involved with an incident with two other people,” she said, “requiring one of them to be brought to our Emergency Department early this morning. The
incident was stated as an accident and the patient was treated and stable. One of the individuals
involved went missing and was later found by our EMS station with an apparent self-inflicted
gunshot wound.”

No one else was involved or injured and the facility is safe and secure, Casteel said. The Paris Police
Department is investigating the incident.
