Another Phone Scam In Weakley Co.

scam

Weakley County, Tenn.–A Weakley County resident is $1,500 poorer today after falling victim to a telephone scam and Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan is warning residents to be alert.
McGowan said on Monday, the caller convinced the person that they were a winner in the Publishers Clearing House contest and that a vehicle and other prizes would be delivered by 3 p.m. on the 11th. The victim sent $1500 dollars to an address in Missouri. The victim was told this would cover the cost of shipping and taxes.
McGowan said, “Once again the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department wants the public to be aware of this and other phone scams and encourages people to talk to older members of their family and make them aware of these types of scams. Once the money is sent it is almost impossible to ever get it back.”
