Paris, Tenn.—The Paris Board of Public Utilities has hired Meagan Hart as its new marketing specialist. Hart has experience in marketing, having been the assistant marketing director at Henry Co. Medical Center and a marketing teacher at Grove School.
Hart will begin February 11 and BPU General Manager Terry Wimberley said, “She’s a good fit and we’re pleased with the connections she already has with the community.”
Wimberley said 125 people applied for the position. “We went through Central Point Solutions and a lot of the applicants were from Murray, Martin, McKenzie and the whole region.” Central Point interviewed 12 of the applications, whittling the number down to six, with whom BPU interviewed.
Wimberley said Hart will be at the February meeting to meet the board members.
Renovation in the BPU lobby is complete and Wimberley said there is a bit more work to be done in the hallway and rear of the BPU headquarters on Washington St.
Renovation was performed to provide better security for employees and to increase efficiency, both of which have been attained, Wimberley said. “We’ve had very good comments from the public and good feedback from the employees. They’ve told us they feel more secure.”
The way the new lobby is configured, with more customer service windows allows staff to wait on more people more quickly, he said.
The total project cost $624,000, which was $7,000 under the original bid. “Things worked in our favor and that is good,” Wimberley said.
In other business:
–Wimberley reported the wastewater loan is delayed because of the federal government shutdown. “We’re a month behind in the process and we’re eager to get the loan established and in place because we need to strengthen our cash position. Obviously, we don’t know when the shutdown will be lifted.”
–BPU officials will be having a pre-construction conference today on the upcoming water plant project.
