Martin, Tenn.—Both the Martin Elementary and Primary Schools were locked down Friday afternoon for about a half hour after Martin Police received notified of a possible domestic/firearms issue in the area near the schools. After responding officers determined the call had no merit, the lock downs were lifted.

Assistant Chief Phillip Fuqua said in a press release, “Martin Police Department was notified by phone of a possible domestic issue in the area of Christine St.  We were given information that there were firearms inside the residence in question.  Due to the close proximity of this residence to both the Martin Elementary and Primary Schools, both schools were placed on temporary lockdown as precautionary measures.”

Fuqua said, “Shortly after responding officers discovered that the call had no merit and there was no domestic and/or firearm incident occurring at the residence, the lockdowns were lifted.  This entire event occurred between 11:52 and 12:23 this date.  Thank you to Weakley County 911 and the administrations and staff at both schools for their cooperation and assistance during the event.”
