Union City, Tenn.–Shane Sisco didn’t let one bad apple spoil the bushel.
“The last game wasn’t indicative of the way we played the first three games,” the Union City boys’ coach said after his squad lost 65-38 to Marion (Ill.) in the third-place game of the 55th annual Carbondale Holiday Tournament Saturday night.
“I thought we really made some positive strides, especially in the early game today against a very athletic Collins (Academy) team. I really liked the way we moved and distributed the ball and allowed our shooters and post to get high percentage shots in our first two games. And our rebounding was good against bigger athletic teams.
“We just have to turn the page now and get ready for the second half.”
UC, which won its first two games in the event on Thursday and Friday, lost earlier Saturday in the Class A championship, 50-44 in overtime to Collins Academy (Ill.).
Tyler Walton was named to the all-tournament team for the Purple and Gold after scoring 74 points in Union City’s four games. Walton made 15 3-pointers in those contests.
The Tornadoes (9-7) will begin the second half of their 2018-19 campaign along with the UC girls on Friday when they host Bradford.
The Lady Twisters (5-8) also lost Saturday, dropping a 29-19 decision to Riverside (Ark.) in the Dot Foods Christmas Classic at Dyersburg.

The Twisters, meanwhile, made just 4-of-20 from the field after the halftime break. Marion connected on 13-of-19 during that time.
Walton ended up with 16 points, while Ben McMillan joined him in double figures with 11.
Collins Acad. 50, UC 44, OT (B)

CA enjoyed a significant free throw edge, making 13-of-22, compared to just 4-of-6 for the Twisters.
UC led 13-10, 24-22 and 35-32 at the quarter breaks before Collins evened the count and forced the OT.

The Twister girls were down 21-11 after three.
