Union City, Tenn.–One good quarter wasn’t enough for Union City. The Tornadoes put up 22 fourth-period points after totaling just 24 in the first three quarters combined, but fell to First Assembly Christian School (FACS) 57-46 in the opening round of the More Than Basketball Christmas Tournament at Harding Academy Thursday night.
The loss was UC’s third straight and dropped the Tornadoes to 6-4 heading into this afternoon’s 1:30 consolation game against KIPP of Memphis. Union City was originally scheduled to play at 4:30 today before a bracket change by tournament officials.
The Twisters could not overcome 23 turnovers committed against FACS in Thursday’s game.
UC trailed just 13-10 after one quarter, but made just five field goals and scored but 14 points over the next two stanzas combined.
The Tornadoes did cut a 15-point halftime deficit to 40-32 in the fourth quarter and had two chances to get closer, but missed 3-pointers.
Ben McMillan scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the final frame. Tyler Walton also finished in double digits with 10.
UC made seven 3-pointers in the contest.
The Twisters will play again Saturday – regardless of today’s result – taking the hardwood at 1:30 if they win today, and at 10:30 a.m. if they lose.
