While en route, Sgt. Eric Long noticed a black male fitting the description given at the store walking the same direction. The man was identified as Bobby Jo Patton. He was detained by officers and searched while the other officer proceeded to West Wood Wines to question the clerk.
It was discovered that Patton had a torn plastic baggie with a white rock like substance in his right sock area, which appeared to be crack cocaine. Patton was asked again about the fake bill and stated he did not know it was fake.
Another officer had been searching the sidewalk area that Patton had walked down prior to being stopped and found the bill crumpled up in a ball. Patton was charged with simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and criminal simulation. Bond was set at $7500.
