Murray State Veterinary Center Achieves Five-Year Accreditation

The Murray State University Breathitt Veterinary Center has obtained a five-year accreditation from the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.

Following a three-day on-site audit , the Center earned full accreditation for all species. The Site Visit Team also spoke with University representatives, including President Dr. Bob Jackson, former Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mark Arant, Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Jackie Dudley and Hutson School of Agriculture Dean Dr. Tony Brannon.

“The strengths of the BVC were discussed, including the new facility, strong laboratory leadership and dedicated faculty and staff,” the report reads. “In addition, (University) leadership expressed a keen awareness and commitment to work with the BVC to identify solutions to address specific challenges facing the laboratory including recruitment of qualified professionals and supporting competitive salaries.”

“The strength of the Breathitt Veterinary Center is our great faculty and outstanding technical staff,” said Dr. Debbie Reed, BVC director. “Without all of them, the accreditation would not have happened. The BVC has held the prestigious AAVLD accreditation from the time the program began many years ago. It is through the hard work of my predecessors and the superb staff that we have been able to maintain the high quality for which we are known. Thanks also goes to the farmers, owners, veterinarians and those throughout the Commonwealth who have supported BVC over the years. The AAVLD accreditation is the result of the hard work done by many people.”

The Breathitt Veterinary Center is a veterinary diagnostic laboratory located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. It provides rapid, accurate diagnostic data that enables veterinarians to make appropriate treatment decisions for patients. Learn more at breathitt.murraystate.edu.
