Mayfield Wreck Claims Woman's Life

Mayfield, Ky.–An 83-year-old Mayfield woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday at the intersection of North 17th Street and State Route 121.
Caroline Copeland declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a dump truck, was Donald Phelps, age 63, of Farmington, and he was not injured.
Officers of the Mayfield Police Department responded to the call of a collision involving injury. On scene, it was determined that the driver of 1998 Chrysler minivan was deceased. An investigation showed that the minivan pulled off of North 17th Street, turning left onto State Route 121 North. A dump truck, owned by R&W Backhoe, Dozing, and Trucking, was traveling South along State Route 121. The minivan pulled into the path of the dump truck. The truck’s operator took evasive action, but was unable to avoid striking the driver’s side of the minivan.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured. Mayfield Police Department was assisted by Mayfield Fire & EMS, Kentucky State Police, Graves County Emergency Management, the Graves County Coroner, and the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
