Dyersburg, Tenn.–Dyersburg Police Officers have responded to multiple calls involving copper thefts in recent days and are seeking help from the public.
Local business owners have arrived to open for business only to find their air-conditioning units were not cooling properly. In a press release, department officials said the owners later discovered their units had been vandalized and copper wiring and tubing had been removed. Prior to stealing the copper wire and tubing the electrical cord is severed leaving the unit without power.
The thieves also disassemble the unit nearby and remove the copper wiring, copper tubing, and coil, all of which are of value, leaving the shell of the unit. The Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating all thefts and vandalisms.
The thefts started on or about August 13, at the following businesses. Shevon’s Above & Beyond Hair Salon located at 220 E. Court., Suite B Day One Dyer County Day Shelter Suite A, New to Me located at 212 E. Court, and McDonald’s Inc., Office Building located 575 Mall Blvd.
