Kentucky Fugitive Found In Stewart Co. Woods

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Dover, Tenn.—A fugitive wanted in Christian County, Ky., was caught in Stewart County Friday by a team of Stewart County Sheriff’s deputies, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and a U.S. Forest Service Officer and K9.
Scotty Bowen was wanted in Christian County for failure to appear for sentencing at a jury trial on charges of first-degree sexual abuse involving a victim 12 years of age and intimidating a witness.
Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray told WENK/WTPR Friday afternoon, “We’re glad we got him for Christian County. We’re glad he’s off the streets. People need to go through the justice system like anyone else.”
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office distributed information on Bowen on August 14, seeking the public’s help in finding him, noting that he may be in the Bumpus Mills area of Stewart County.
Gray said the sheriff’s office received a tip that Bowen may be in the woods near Lower Standing Rock. He said the team, which included Forest Service Officer Donnie Dill and his K9, found Bowen after two days of searching. Gray said Bowen had been staying in a camper which was “way in the woods”.
Officers had searched Thursday afternoon and continued searching Friday morning for some three hours. Bowen was dressed in camouflage, had a backpack and had weapons on him, along with camping supplies.
Gray thanked everyone who helped with the search.
