Calloway Co. Communications Center First In State To Be Accredited

Murray, Ky.—The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center is the first sheriff’s office Communications Center to be accredited in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The presentation of the accreditation certificate occurred at the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Owensboro.
Sheriff Sam Steger said the center will be receiving another certificate from the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association at its annual meeting later this year.
This process of becoming an accredited center was started in January of 2019 by Sheriff Steger, Officer Nathan Baird, and Officer Chesley Thomas. It was finalized with a site visit by the KACP Accreditation Program Manager on July 22.
Those involved had the task of rewriting the Communications Center’s entire policy manual as well as adding new policies and procedures in order to conform to the standards and practices set forth by the KACP. This included creating new service agreements with neighboring agencies, setting policies on daily operations, funding and budgeting, and labeling roles and responsibilities for employees of the Communications Center.
