KSP Issues Arrest Warrant In Deadly Pit Bull Attack

Gilbertsville, Ky.– The Kentucky State Police has issued a warrant for the arrest of the owner of the pit bulls that are alleged to have killed a Benton man whose body was found on a roadway in Gilbertsville, Ky., on June 29.
Troopers have arrested Daniel Kai Alexander, age 29, of Gilbertsville on a felony arrest warrant. He is charged with tampering with evidence and for not contacting law enforcement when he had knowledge that a body was on the roadway.
The arrest stemmed from the investigation into the death of Brian S. Butler which began on June 29. Alexander was one of the owners of the three pit bulls that have been quarantined by Marshall County Animal Control.
According to the KSP, the investigation has shown that Alexander tampered with physical evidence at the scene on June 29. The investigation has also shown that Alexander had knowledge of Butler’s body on McCoy Lane and did not contact the proper authorities. Butler’s body was located later that evening by a passing motorist who called 911.
Alexander is charged with the following; Tampering With Physical Evidence (Class D Felony), as well as Duty of Person, Hospital, or Institution Finding or Possessing Dead Body (Class B Misdemeanor).
At this time the Kentucky State Police feel confident that the three pit bulls belonging to Alexander were the only dog(s) responsible for the attack on Brian S. Butler. However, the community of Gilbertsville is urged to exercise caution towards any roaming dogs in the area.
The death investigation continues by KSP Detective Brian Hill.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police Post 1 270-856-3721 or anonymously at 1-800-222-5555. Citizens may also report tips anonymously through the KSP app.  The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android applications and can be easily downloaded free of charge through Apple and Google Play stores.
