Paris Downtown Boxing Club Brings Home Gold, Silver From Junior Olympics

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Downtown Boxing Club brought home the gold and silver from the 48th annual Junior Olympics tournament.
Cam’ron Patton was awarded the Gold Medal, while Demarccus Patton won silver.
The Junior Olympics tournament was held in Madison, Wisconsin this year, with more than 350 boxers from 14 regions participating.
Both of the Patton’s have been competing for several years for the Paris Club and have brought home a lot of hardware from the regional and national tournaments in which they have competed.
But this time, Cam’ron is the first Junior Olympic Gold Medalist boxer in Henry County.
Three boxers from the Paris Club qualified for the nationals by advancing through the state and regional levels: Cam’ron and Demarccus Patton, along with Jaylen Cadet.
Cadet started competing recently and Miranda Moon of the Paris Club said, “It’s just really remarkable that he advanced and did so well so early. He’s a straight A student and a cello player for Inman and that takes a lot of his time, too.”
The Paris Club has competed all over the country, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, and more.
Cam’ron Patton is the 14-year-old son of Fran Patton. Demarccus Patton is the 11-year-old son of Fran Patton and Nick Howard.
Jaylen Cadet is 12 and the son of Shannon Cadet.
Cadet fought in the Intermediate 110 Class, while Demarccus fought in the Bantam 125 Class and Cam’ron was in the Junior 176 Class.
Coach Derik Moon said, “I’m proud of the hard work and dedication of our boxers. Someone recently commented to us that there is no boxing season. These kids work out and home their skills 52 weeks a year. Our kids don’t play boxing, they live it.”
The Paris Downtown Boxing Club is located at 207 E. Wood Street and is open Monday through Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. They have classes for all age groups.
