BPU Honors Van Dyck, Extends Wimberley's Contract

Paris, TN – Long-time Paris Board of Public Utilities (BPU) member John Van Dyck was honored for his years of service to the board at Tuesday’s meeting.
The board approved a special resolution presented by Chairman David Flowers to show appreciation to Van Dyck for his nine and a half years of service and dedication to the board, as he has chosen to retire from the board when his term expires June 30.
“John Van Dyke has been a pleasure to work with in his tenure on our Board,” said BPU General Manager Terry Wimberley. “I am grateful for his vision to help BPU address our aging infrastructure over the last decade.  His service to our utility and our community is much appreciated.”
The board also approved a motion to renew the employment agreement with BPU General Manager, Terry Wimberley. The renewal will extend Wimberley’s contract as General Manager to June 30, 2022. Wimberley’s contract was not up for renewal until December, but the board voted to extend it early to align Wimberley’s contract with the fiscal year.
In other business, the board approved the list of professional service providers the utility will use for the 2020 fiscal year. Additionally, the board voted to approve the fiscal year 2020 budgets for all departments as they were presented at the May meeting of the board.
Communications Specialist Meagan Hart reported to the board on how the utility fared during the storms this past weekend. Over 3,000 phone calls were answered by office staff on Friday night from 6:00 pm to midnight. Crews replaced over 25 poles, several miles of wire and over 2,200 manhours were logged in the complete restoration of power from the storm.
The July meeting of the board will take place on Tuesday, July 23.
