Construction Zone Barrels Stuck Under Truck, Driver Arrested On Numerous Charges

Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested on a long list of charges Sunday night after he was found staggering in the middle of the road with construction zone barrels stuck underneath his truck.
Cody Chessor, age 25, of Crystal Road, was charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, leaving the scene and implied consent by Union City Police.
Officers were dispatched to the construction zone on East Old Troy Road about 10:15 p.m. and found Chessor staggering in the middle of the road. According to the report, he was talking incoherently and had a strong odor of alcohol. Several beer bottles were around his truck and a child’s car seat was in the truck. Officers asked him if there was anyone else in the vehicle and his reply was, “I don’t know, is there?”.
According to the report, Cheesor “was obviously unable to operate a motor vehicle safety due to his intoxication.”
At the jail, Chessor was read the implied consent form and refused to supply a sample.
According to the report, he attempted to leave the scene of the crash. “Several construction zone barrels were lodged under the front of (his) truck and there was transmission fluid leaking from the engine.”
Officers said he was uncooperative and resistant and when they tried to check on him during the investigation, Chessor stuck his foot out of the door and refused to remove it, “forcing officers to forcibly drag him across the back seat in order to close the door.”
