Union City, Tenn.—Problems continue to plaque the proposed Splash Pad and Skateboard Park project for Union City.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Union City City Council, city officials said more problems have been found with the contractor’s work—this time cracking concrete and drains not installed properly.
City Manager Kathy Dillon said the contractor will be required to fix the issues. It had been hoped the project would be open this summer, but officials say the ongoing problems have delayed its opening.
City officials said originally the purpose of the project was to enhance the existing Graham Park with an ADA accessible splash pad and skate park. It is located on the site of the former municipal pool at the corner of N. Sunswept Drive and East Main Street.
In 2016, city officials received a $500,000 state grant and Union City City Council approved an additional $500,000 in local funds to develop the splash pad, skate park, restroom facilities and additional parking at Graham Park.
