Paris, Tenn.—A Paris man was arrested Friday evening following a foot chase through backyards in the Atkins-Porter Neighborhood.
Shontel Thompson, age 20, of Travis St., was cited with new charges along with the same charges of drug possession and evading arrest from active warrants that precipitated the chase. He was taken to jail, where he was held on $7,500 bond.
Police were on patrol on Tyson Ave. when they spotted Thompson in the front seat of a car when it stopped at Manley and Tyson. Police knew that he was wanted on multiple warrants, according to the report.
When police then attempted to stop the car near the Blanton and Head Street intersection, Thompson opened the door of the car and ran off, the report said. During a chase, dispatchers called officers and said Thompson was at the backyard at 325 Head Street.
Lt. Josh Frey and Patrolman Daniel Andres pursued him on foot and Andres saw Thompson reach into his left pocket and toss a baggie onto the ground. While Thompson was apprehended by Frey, Andres recovered the baggie of what appeared to be marijuana that had been thrown on the ground, according to the report.
