Two UT Martin Softball Players To Represent USA At Friendship Games

MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin softball student-athletes Aalia Bivens of South Fulton and Shelby Woodard of Mt. Juliet are set to represent the United States in the upcoming Netherlands Friendship Series from June 3-12.
Bivens and Woodard will join forces once again along with other athletes from around the country with USA Athletes International (USAAA). USA Athletes International, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches the opportunity to participate in international Olympic-style sporting events throughout the world, while also allowing them to broaden their educational and cultural knowledge of the world through the experience. USAAI has been participating in international competition since 1992.
The Netherlands Friendship Series is a 10-day event with departure on Monday, June 3 before returning on Wednesday, June 12. Wednesday will be a practice day before playing five games later in the week. Along with competition, the group will experience trips to the Anne Frank House, the Typical Canal in Amsterdam, The Hague and the castle of Bad Bentheim in Germany among other stops.
Bivens recently completed her junior campaign with the Skyhawks where she started in 51 games primarily in right field. The two-time OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient posted a .262 batting average with eight doubles, three home runs and 18 RBIs.
Woodard concluded her senior campaign with the Skyhawks after playing her first three seasons at North Alabama where she won a Division II national championship. In her brief time as a Skyhawk, she saw action in 32 games while earning 21 starts. Her best game came against Green Bay midway through the season when she launched a walk-off two run home runs to lift the Skyhawks to victory.
