City Of Paris Institutes New Sanitation Procedures For Cardboard

Paris, Tenn.–With the increasing number of cardboard boxes due to online shopping, the city of Paris is experiencing some issues with its residential sanitation routes.
Community Development Director Jennifer Morris said residents are more commonly using these boxes as trash containers as opposed to plastic bags that are currently required by ordinance.  This practice takes more time for collection and creates an unsafe situation for the sanitation workers. Additionally it means that these boxes ultimately end up in our landfill.  The city has been directed by the State of Tennessee to divert as much refuse as possible away from our landfill.  For all of these reasons we must institute a procedure to alleviate these issues.
The city has developed a procedure where it will collect cardboard boxes separately from normal sanitation pickup.  As currently required, all household waste must still be placed in a plastic bag for pickup.  Beginning April 5 we will institute a separate pickup schedule for cardboard boxes.
The city asks that you call Public Works at 642-0473 to arrange for cardboard pickup.  All cardboard boxes will be collected on Fridays based on the call list.  Do not place your boxes on the curb before Thursday evening.  If you have questions you may call 642-0473.
