South Fulton, Tenn.—Meeting in special session Thursday afternoon, the South Fulton Mayor and Commissioners hired Johnny Bacon to serve as interim City Manager. Bacon will fill the position for City Manager James Gray who is on paid administrative leave after his arrest last month for attempting to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at two Union City businesses. Gray also is an Obion Co. Commissioner.
Bacon is 68 and served two terms on Union City’s City Council. He is from Hickman and has worked at Discovery Park of America and works part-time at Jerry Ward’s Autoplex in Union City. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from Murray State.
Bacon answered questions from the commissioners and mayor before the appointment was made. A prorated salary of $45,000 was approved and Bacon will have full authority as acting city manager.
