Holden Receives Arts Advocacy Award From UTM

Martin, Tenn.–The University of Tennessee at Martin Music Department recently held a Musicians Reunion and Paris Musician Michael Holden was honored by receiving the Arts Advocacy Award.
The day consisted of tours of the recently remodeled Fine Arts Building, a question and answer panel discussion that included Dr. Julie Hill, current  Music Department Chair; Chancellor Keith Carver  and Provost Phillip Acree, as well as music faculty.
A recital featuring current student music majors and a few alumni was performed and after lunch, alumni were invited to sit in and play in the E. J. Eaton Tribute Jazz Band for a concert open to the attendees and the public.
That evening the Alumni Banquet was held at Discovery Park of America in Union City at which five awards were presented.
Holden received UTM’s Arts Advocacy Award which honors an individual whose tireless efforts have dramatically impacted their community, creating transformative change through the arts.
Holden has been involved in promoting, directing and starting several musical events in the past several years. He’s also served on the Board of Directors of the Paris Henry County Arts Council, served as a band clinician, arranger and private music teacher. He is also active in the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church.
His most recent endeavor is the Paris Henry County Community Band under the umbrella of the Paris-Henry County Chamber Music Society. The community band is a non profit organization dedicated to promoting music, the love of music and music education in our area.
