South Fulton City Manager Suspended With Pay Following Arrest

South Fulton, Tenn.—At a special meeting Thursday afternoon, the South Fulton Mayor and commission suspended City Manager James Gray with pay following his arrest earlier this week on two charges of attempting to pass fake bills.
Gray’s suspension is pending the outcome of the legal case against him after he was arrested by Union City Police on the charges. Gray is accused of trying to use a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for purchases at two separate Union City businesses over the weekend.
City Attorney Kirk Moore told South Fulton Commission there will other options, including termination or suspension without pay, but he recommended termination with pay to allow Mayor David Lamb and the commission “breathing room” while the case is pending.
In other discussion regarding whether to appoint an interim city manager, Lamb said he had offers from several men to fill that role, including former City Manager Jeff Gabbert, Rev. Miles Mayo, Hickman Interim City Manager Cubb Stokes and David Hart with Alexander Thompson Arnold.
Commissioners asked Lamb to present information on salary and other requirements sought by the potential candidates for the position.
