NASHVILLE, TN – Bethel University’s Physician Assistant Program participated in the annual “Physician Assistant Day on the Hill” event in Nashville. The gathering, sponsored by the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA), brought practicing physician assistants and students together with state legislators. The students met with State Rep. Bruce Griffey (R-Paris) while at the Capitol.
The day included a networking session, a legislative briefing, and scheduled meetings that allowed participants to speak directly with law-makers. Bethel’s PA students, along with faculty and staff, met with a combined 10 representatives and senators during the day. Bethel’s PA program students, instructors, and administrators attend the event every year.
“PA Day on the Hill is an opportunity for us to strengthen our existing relationships and build some new ones,” said Program Director Trent Scates. “It’s one more way to ensure that Bethel PA Program participants are well prepared for a successful future in healthcare.”
The Bethel University PA Program is housed on the school’s Paris, TN, campus. Bethel confers a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies upon successful completion of the 27-month course of study. The program consists of 12 months of didactic learning and 15 months of clinical experience.
In 2017, the program was recognized for its 100% pass rate on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE); in 2018, Bethel’s pass rate was 98%. The program was recently named number six in the U.S. for rural employment, helping bridge the gap between rural Americans’ rising healthcare needs and the medical caregivers needed to serve them.
