Dover, Tenn.–A program on the historic surrender of the Confederate forces to General Ulysses S. Grant and his Union soldiers at Fort Donelson will be held today. The surrender occurred between General Grant and General Simon Buckner happened at the Dover Hotel on February 16, 1862.

Join a Fort Donelson park ranger for a program about the surrender of almost 13,000 Confederate soldiers 157 years ago this weekend. The Dover Hotel was the site of that memorable meeting between Generals Ulysses Grant and Simon Buckner.

During the Civil War, soldiers from both the North and South were overcome by both the injuries of battle, and disease. From everyday camp life to the horrors of the battlefield, most soldiers would see it all. Join Fort Donelson rangers at the Dover Hotel to learn of the different injuries and afflictions commonly suffered by the soldiers of 1862, and how these soldiers were tended to, and treated by the surgeons, nurses, and doctors of the day.
