Paris, Tenn.—A Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured this afternoon while serving an arrest warrant. Deputy Jim Higgins was taken to Henry County Medical Center with a laceration to his head which he sustained in an altercation with the suspect.
Higgins was serving the arrest warrant on Rodney Avant, age 30, at his home at 115 Wynn St., Paris.
According to Captain Adam Jenkins, Higgins found Avant hiding in the cabinet in his bathroom. Before backup could arrive, Higgins got Avant out of the cabinet and after he got him out, Avant tried to get away. After a struggle, Higgins deployed his Tazer and placed Avant in custody.
During the altercation, Higgins was injured with the laceration to his head and was transported to the ER where he received several stitches.
Jenkins said Avant is being held on the original charges against him, but more will be added after Higgins recovers.
