Murray, Ky.–A Memphis man was arrested on a long list of charges after leading deputies from Henry Co. and Calloway Co. on a pursuit through both counties Monday morning. After exiting his vehicle in Murray, a door-to-door search was conducted by deputies, Murray Police and Kentucky State Police and was finally taken into custody in a Murray neighborhood by Calloway Co. Sheriff Sam Steger.
During the pursuit, the suspect almost hit Sheriff Steger head-on.
Arrested was Vencie E. Bell, Jr. who is charged with two counts of wanton endangerment first degree involving a police officer, fleeing and evading, giving police false identifying information, reckless driving, operating a suspended driver’s license, speeding, five counts of running stop signs.
On January 7, 2019 at 10:52 am, the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office that they were engaged in a vehicle pursuit on US Hwy. 641 entering Calloway Co. from Tennessee.
The Henry County units terminated their pursuit as they entered the city limits of Hazel. Calloway County Deputies met the suspect vehicle travelling Northbound just south of Murray near the Brandon Bottoms on US Hwy. 641 S.
As the suspect, later identified as Vencie E. Bell, Jr. attempted to pass another northbound vehicle he almost struck Calloway County Sheriff Sam Steger head on. Sheriff Steger initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, Bell refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began.
Bell turned onto Peggy Ann Dr. in Murray and continued to lead Calloway Co. units down several streets in that area. Bell eventually drove into a yard on Kirkwood Dr. where he exited his vehicle and fled on foot.
A short time later, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle seen in the area. It was determined that the driver of this vehicle was asked by Bell to come pick him up.  Deputies, with the assistance of the Murray Police Department & Kentucky State Police, then began a house to house search for Bell.
Bell was located in the 1300 block of Peggy Ann Dr. by a Murray Police Department Officer and was taken into custody by Sheriff Steger.
