Springville, Tenn.–Antioch United Methodist Church in Springville celebrated the first Sunday in Advent December 2 and honored long-time member Madge Lawrence.
The church was decorated with poinsettias, a manger scene, a Christmas tree and, new this year, two large banners hanging in the front of the sanctuary featuring red poinsettias and proclaiming “Worship Christ the newborn King” and “O Come let us Adore HIm”. The banners were given to honor Madge Lawrence.
As Pastor Linda Hilliard presented the banners she said, ” As we celebrate the presence of Christ coming into our world, we give thanks for the presence of Christ that shines forth from Madge in all the ways she serves the church so faithfully.”
Madge Lawrence and her husband Pat Lawrence joined Antioch United Methodist Church in 1979 after his retirement from military service. She has served in many ways at Antioch UMC as its lay leader, church council chairperson, Sunday school teacher, choir member and in many other positions. She is a certified lay speaker and served as the District Lay Leader in the Paris District for several years.
