Paris, Tenn.—Lt. Clyde Sulcer was named Patrol Officer of the Year, Sgt. Eddie Crosser was named School Resource Officer of the Year, Corrections Officer of the Year was Cpl. Brent Coffman, Reserve Officer of the Year was Dave Holtgrewe and awards were given to all deputies and officers who participated in last summer’s intense manhunt for a fugitive Monday night by the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office.
The year-end awards are always given at the sheriff office’s annual Christmas party, which was held at the Henry Co. Fairgrounds. Sgt. Daniel Powell was promoted to Lt. by Sheriff Monte Belew in recognition of his being tapped to be director of the sheriff office’s work release program.
In giving Lt. Sulcer the Patrol Officer of the Year award, Chief Deputy Damon Lowe noted, “This award could go to a number of officers. But Lt. Sulcer does everything we ask him to do, puts in an unbelievable amount of hours and is looked up to by everybody.”
In awarding SRO of the Year, Sheriff Monte Belew noted that Sgt. Crosser “has been a mainstay” at the sheriff’s office, is active with the therapy dog program (with his therapy dog ‘Buster’), and is an entrepreneur, too, having developed the Crosser Stoplock.
Dave Holtgrewe, Lowe said, “goes above and beyond” what is expected of reserve officers. “He goes to the schools every day and the kids love him and we love him for doing it.”
In giving Corp. Coffman the Corrections Officer of the Year award, Captain Steve Dean said he “goes above and beyond and does anything you ask.”
Belew brought all of the deputies and officers who participated in last summer’s arduous manhunt forward and presented them with awards, with special recognition given to Cpl. Stacey Bostwick, who, along with Belew, captured wanted murderer Kirby Wallace.
Lifesaving Awards were given to Cpl. James Sanders who saved a man’s life during the Blues Landing fire; Lt. Scott Wyrick, who found a man in a field who had been missing from Murray; Deputy Jon Andrews, Corp. Brent Coffman and Doc Phillip McCain for saving lives with Narcan.
Awards were given by Sgt. Brian Davis and Investigator Scott Wyrick for trying to save the life of a young girl.
A merit badge was given to Constable Chris Coley for helping with the manhunt.
