Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man is incarcerated in the Obion Co. Jail on several charges after evading arrest by climbing on top of a building. He also was wanted on charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery out of Shelby Co.
Union City Police arrested Antonio Devantae Cox, age 25, of Cheatham St., and charged him with evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, fourth offense.
Police on patrol noticed a blue Ford Escape that had been reported stolen at 211 Bransford St. and saw the car was moving in reverse with a male in the driver seat. Police pulled behind the car and identified the driver as Antonio Cox.
According to the report, Cox hopped out of the driver’s seat and turned the car off. Officers asked him what he was up to and he said just throwing away trash that was in the car. Police explained to him why he was being stopped and that he was going to be detained and Cox took off on foot.
After a short foot pursuit, Cox climbed on top of a building in the area of 914 Perkins St. Other units arrived and officers talked Cox into coming down and he was placed in custody. He was then taken to the Baptist Memorial emergency room and checked out.
