Union City, Tenn.–It was business as usual for Union City Schools and its students this morning.
Nearly two inches of snow and freezing precipitation that fell Wednesday afternoon and evening did not alter the normal November school day today for the UC System.
Director of Schools Wes Kennedy made the decision that it was safe for all involved this morning around 4:45 after driving almost all bus route streets and roads both today and last night.
The area appeared to miss out on the heaviest of forecasted precipitation, and most all roads in and around Union City were only wet — except for a few bridges and overpasses.
Supervisor of Bus Transportation Chuck Reedy said he and a member of his crew were out around 2:30 this morning, blowing what snow that had accumulated off of sidewalks and away from building entrances. Salt was applied to any problem areas.
Kennedy joined them before making his rounds on the local streets.
School personnel, parents and students were informed of Kennedy’s decision by various forms of social media and email before 5 a.m.
Bus drivers and school administrators reported no issues or accidents with their respective morning drop-offs.
A decision on Union City’s season-opening high school basketball games against visiting Trenton will not be made until around 11 a.m. The Trenton Special School District and most other systems in that area were closed today.
