Douglass Player "Doing Fine" After Injury; 2nd Round UC Game Set At Whitehaven

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–Anfernee Wilson, the running back from Douglass who was injured in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s playoff game with Union City and airlifted via helicopter to Memphis, is “doing just fine,” according to his head coach, Preston Harris.

Harris said Wilson was released from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital between 3 and 4 a.m. Saturday. He is to undergo an MRI today, according to the coach.

Wilson was airlifted as a precautionary measure after he was hurt on a running play with 6:07 to play in Friday’s game and his team trailing, 49-13. He had movement in his extremities and never lost consciousness.

Both Harris and UC head coach Darren Bowling agreed to call the contest official after Wilson was removed from the field by stretcher and then transported by ambulance to the helipad at Baptist Memorial Hospital-UC.

State playoffs, elite band competition
Highlight coming week’s schedule

Union City’s second round state football playoff game at Memphis against eighth-ranked Fairley and the Grand National Band Contest in Indianapolis are the main focus of this week’s sports/extracurricular activities slate for UC Schools.

The Golden Tornadoes (6-5) will face a tough test against the Bulldogs (9-2), who dropped down from Class 4A just a few years ago.

Without its own homefield on campus, Fairley plays its designated home games at one of the several city-managed fields.

The Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Association announced this morning that Friday’s game would be played at Whitehaven.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The UCHS band will take the field at Indianapolis at 4:15 (CST) in competition at the GNC competition.

The contest will be the last of the season for the Marching Golden Tornadoes.
