Paris, Tenn.—Speaking to the party faithful and visitors at a meet and greet luncheon Thursday, U.S. Senatorial Candidate Marsha Blackburn said even though her opponent former Governor Phil Bredesen “has the money and the media, we’ve got the people, the policies and prayers.”
Blackburn said the blue wave that was predicted “is more like a blue ripple”. She said, “And that blue ripple will be meeting a great red wall in Tennessee.”
Blackburn appeared at the meeting, sponsored by the Henry Co. GOP, along with Congressman David Kustoff, who is seeking re-election. Other speakers at today’s event were State Senator John Stevens, Paris Mayor Carlton Gerrell and Sheriff Monte Belew.
Blackburn received a standing ovation before and after her presentation.
Democrats are spending a lot of money to get Bredesen elected to the post formerly held by U.S. Senator Bob Corker, she said, asserting that Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Bredesen is the party’s “No. 1 recruit” and that he said “If it takes $50 M or more” to get Bredesen elected, they would spend that much.
Blackburn, Kustoff and Stevens stressed the importance of the upcoming mid-terms, which will be held Nov. 6, and the importance of early voting.
Blackburn said the upcoming election is a “fork in the road” and said, “They need Tennessee values in Washington.”
Tennessee, she said, “wants a Senator who supports building the wall”, noting that she supports an end to sanctuary cities. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to come into the United States of America and we want to make sure people do it the right way.”
Kustoff said, “This is such an important election and you all know that. In 12 days, we’re going to have a new Governor and I believe it will be Bill Lee and he’s going to do a good job.”
Stevens said, “So many of us worked so hard to bring President Trump to office” and that the Democratic agenda “would roll back the tax cuts”. He said, “The Trump agenda has been so successful. We don’t want to go backward, we want to continue going forward.”
Kustoff agreed, saying that “Trump has done a great job. He has kept his promises. He has carried through with his promises.” He asserted that Bredesen would not be his own man if he would be elected to the U.S. Senate, but would be under the thumb of Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
