Paris, Tenn.–The newly-restored Steinway piano was welcomed home with style Thursday at the Krider Performing Arts Center with a mini-piano recital from Rhonda Stanton and Peggy Williams.
Stanton is the current general manager at KPAC and Williams was instrumental in the selection of the Steinway piano some 18 years ago. Both are long-time private piano teachers and church pianists.
Stanton and Williams performed for the Athena Delphian Club, which purchased the Steinway originally and paid for its restoration.
In addition to performing, Stanton and Williams told the story of the Steinway piano and how it came to Paris. Stanton thanked the Athena Delphian Club for the piano, noting, “What a glorious gift this was”.
The piano was restored by Amro Music in Memphis and has been outfitted with a damp chaser system inside the piano which will moderate the humidity. Amro also played a big part in the selection of the piano for KPAC, along with Williams and Alison Neal, who was a member of the Nelson-Neal musical duo which operated out of Paris years ago.
