Big Weekend For UC Schools


 
 
 
Union City, Tenn.–It was a very good weekend for students in the Union City School System. In addition to the championship win by the marching band (see related article and photo), the softball team celebrated with a banquet, the football team is back in the swing of things and the ‘cafeteria lady’ won the game ball at the Pink Out game.

The Union City Middle School softball team celebrated its recently-completed season with a banquet Sunday night at Crosswind Church.
 
Second-year head coach Chelsea Farmer recognized several members of the squad – which went 5-5 – with individual awards.
 
Among the award winners were:
 
Best Defensive Player: Kennedi Robinson
 
Best Offensive Player: Emmaline Qualls
 
Most Valuable Player: Marlee Theobald
 
Most Improved Player: Aujiani Moss
 
All-Academic Award: Marlee Theobald
 
Tornado Award: Marlee Theobald
 
Community Award: Lyric Adams and Morgan Palmer
 
Character Award: Bailey Decker and Bayleigh Long
Commitment Award: Emma Powell and Alli Kate Frilling.
 
Assistant coach Alicia Hansen was also recognized for her contributions to the team in a volunteer capacity this year.
 
UCHS “cafeteria lady” Vicky Roberson
Receives game ball from Pink Out
 
Obion County Farm Bureau representative Brian Burcham presented the commemorative Pink Out game ball to Vicky Roberson, the cafeteria manager at Union City High School, at halftime ceremonies of Friday’s 14-6 Tornado win. over Trinity Christian Academy.
 
Miss Vicky has worked in the Union City High School cafeteria for 32 years, having ascended from salad maker in 1986 to her current role that oversees four other ladies and helps serve lunch to 350 students and faculty every school day.
 
Affectionately known as “the cafeteria lady,” Miss Vicky always has a smile on her face and a kind word for all students, faculty and her co-workers.
 
She is currently in the midst of her second bout with cancer after first being diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2014. She presently takes a daily chemo pill to combat bone cancer.
