Downtown Landmark Gone, Will Make Way For Green Space, Playground

Paris, Tenn.—A familiar landmark is gone from downtown Paris and will be replaced with green space.

The 83-year-old brick and block building at 112 S. Brewer Street had most recently housed the Henry & Howard garage. The building was demolished Wednesday. According to City of Paris Building Inspector, the building was constructed in 1935. The building mostly served as a garage during most of those years, Brown said.

Brown said the building had not been maintained in recent years and had deteriorated.

The property is now owned by the First Christian Church, which is adjacent to it. Rev. Cory Glover said plans are for the lot to become a playground/green space as well as a new parking lot for the church.

Rev. Glover said church officials have no solid timeline for the project. Church officials loved the building and the advertising mural that was on the side of the building, “but it was not structurally sound,” he said.
