Season’s best times
Highlight Twister Cross Country
Five Union City runners recorded personal-best times in the Huntingdon Invitational cross country meet Tuesday.
Dalton Bone placed 14th overall in a field of 190 participants, recording a time of 18:32. Matthew Parr ranked No. 25 with a time of 19:19 and BJ Frankum finished 33rd with a best-ever time of 19:44.
Cedrion Cook was clocked at 21:18, his best-ever finish.
For the Lady Tornadoes, Katelyn Edmond ran a personal-record 26:23, placing 44th in a field of around 150 runners.
Union City’s next meet will be Oct. 4 at its own invitational.
Senior Night all good
For UCHS volleyball
Volleyball Senior Night was a rousing success for Union City Tuesday, the Lady Tornadoes sweeping Westview 3-0 for their seventh win of the season.
UC won 25-18, 25-13 and 25-10 to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Ashley Kate Cooley served 13 aces and also set to assist Endia Dowell with 16 hits. Sanaa Davis had six hits in the victory and Sailor Bearden was credited with four.
Seniors Cooley, Dowell, Davis, Bearden, Aleigha Beth Keeling, Byonca Shade and Jy’Rese Thompson were all honored in pre-game ceremonies.
The Lady Tornadoes also won the jayvee match, 25-21 and 25-22.
Marlee Johnson led the way with 24 passes, four hits and five serves.
Aubree Keeling delivered excellent setting for hitters Anna Lynn Cheatham, Kaigan Davis and Abby Suiter.
Union City will host Gibson County Thursday at 6 p.m.
Tornado golfers get in
Glorified practice time
With visiting Dresden bringing just two players to its schedule match with Union City to Poplar Meadows Country Club Tuesday, Tornado golfers essentially got in some good practice time.
Kyle Herrell had a good day, shooting a 37 that was low score for the Tornado boys. Tyler Walton registered a 39, Joyner Caldwell came in with a 40 and Mason Reed finished with a 46.
Wilson Harris and Eli Jordan both shot 48s, Miles Odle carded a 50 and Gabriel Qualls came in with a 57.
For the UC girls, Meg Kizer and Addi Hooks both had 51 on their scorecards. Gussie Parks finished with a 54, Sloan Bearden shot 60 and Julianne Becton turned in a 61.
Abbi Nicks shot 63 and Olivia Tanner had a 71.
Union City is scheduled to be back on the links Thursday at Dyer.
UCMS softball loses
On road at Camden
The Union City Middle School softball team dropped a 10-0 decision at Camden Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Tornadoes are now 4-5 heading into next Tuesday’s 8th Grade Night, when they’ll host Lake County.
The start time of that game has been moved to 6:30, due to parent-teacher conferences at the school.
Emma Powell was the losing hurler Tuesday at Camden.
Bayleigh Long was UC’s lone baserunner and made an outstanding catch in the outfield.
