Paris, Tenn.—A downtown Paris restaurant plans a minor expansion and a new office building will be built at the corner of Maurice Fields Drive and Volunteer Drive following approvals by the Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission Thursday night.
Patrick Perry of Perry’s BBQ already has improved the corner where his business is located at 107 Ruff Street with landscaping, new signage, picnic tables and an attractive wooden fence around the grilling area. Now, he plans to place a 16 foot by 16 foot wood deck that would be used for outdoor dining.
In his request for approval of a minor site plan, Perry said the deck will not be covered and would be considered a long-term temporary structure that could be moved or removed in the future.
Phillip Brown is proposing construction of a 4,000 square foot office building in the lot at the entrance to Eiffel Tower Park (corner of Maurice Fields Drive and Volunteer Drive). City Economic Development Director Jennifer Morris said the total site area is .64 acres with a proposed 17 parking spaces.
A two-way entrance and exit would be located on the Volunteer Drive side of the side.
Several city departments voiced concerns about the location in written comments, including drainage problems there, having to move the gas line, and where to place a dumpster.
Morris said all of the concerns have been addressed, including diverting drainage and relocating the gas line that runs under that property.
Mayor Carlton Gerrell said, “It sure seems like a lot of trouble to go through. It doesn’t seem like a good lot for what he’s trying to do.”
With the concerns addressed, however, the plan was approved.
In other business:
–Planners agreed to review further a request from William Flowers, who plans to locate a four-unit storage warehouse and a new mini-storage building on Ruff Street behind the Wanna Deal store. Morris said this request poses a good opportunity for the planners to study zoning issues on self-storage regulations before making a decision. “We don’t want to rush into it,” Morris said.
–Planners approved a rezoning request for 504 N. Poplar St. from Peter Bubelynk, to combine his two lots under R-3 zoning.
