Two Hospitalized—Victim And Suspect—Following Shooting In Weakley County

Martin, Tenn.—A Weakley County man is in custody—but in a Jackson hospital—after he was arrested on two counts of attempted first degree murder following an incident near Christmasville.

Dennis Harbinson, age 68, was arrested late Saturday night by Weakley Co. Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly shot another man three times. The victim, Linder Harbinson, age 61, is the suspect’s nephew.

According to Captain Randall McGowan, Linder Harbinson survived the shooting. He was taken to Volunteer Hospital by the Weakley Co. Ambulance Service.

The Weakley County 911 dispatch received a call at 11:23 p.m. Saturday night reporting five or six gunshots fired and a person shot multiple times at 310 Craig Lane. The road is between Greenfield and McKenzie near Christmasville.

When deputies arrived, they found Linder Harbinson shot three times below the waist with a 45 caliber pistol and that Linder’s wife, Cynthia Harbinson, age 45, was standing next to him when he was shot.

According to McGowan, the shooting followed a verbal argument. Deputies found the suspect Dennis Harbinson inside the residence and he refused to show deputies his hands. The weapon was located under a bed.

After Dennis Harbinson was booked into the jail in Dresden, he started having breathing problems and was flown by helicopter at noon today (Sunday) to a Vanderbilt Medical Center.
