Paris, Tenn.—Workers were on the job through the early evening Friday night as demolition to the front entrance at Henry County High School began earlier today. Henry County Schools Maintenance Supervisor John Akers was supervising as work continued on the water lines after the canopy was removed.
High School Principal Michele Webb told WENK/WTPR school officials are excited at the updates to the 49 year old building and construction to the front entrance will continue for some 14 months. Meanwhile, the building entrance has been moved to E building and there are signs pointing to the temporary entrance.
Webb has been keeping parents and students advised of the renovations by email. The new front entrance will provide more student and building security, along with school counseling, attendance and SRO offices placed in the same section.
Other projects to come include library renovation, soccer, baseball, softball sports facilities, updated main offices, new gym floor and continuation of construction of the new visitors’ bleachers.
Director of Schools Dr. Brian Norton said the high school will be something of a construction zone for the next 18-24 months “but afterward, we will have a safer and more aesthetically pleasing environment.”
Webb echoed that sentiment, noting, “It will be a long process, but the end result is exciting!”
