Union City Schools Fall Sports Recap

 
Union City, Tenn.–The following is a recap of fall sports for the week:

 
 UC Golfers 5th
In opening match
 
The Union City High School boys’ golf team placed fifth out of 12 teams in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Classic Monday in Jackson.
 
It marked the first match of the season for the Tornado linksters.
 
UC finished with a 359 team total. The Twisters had the second-best total among public schools, trailing only Dyer County by three strokes.
 
Tyler Walton shot an 82 to lead UC. Kyle Herrell finished with a 90, Carter Walton came in with a 91, Joyner Caldwell a 96 and Wilson Harris shot 100.
 
Meg Kizer was the only player from the Union City girls’ team to compete and registered a 123.
Franklin Road Academy came in with a 316, one shot better than Trinity Christian Academy, to claim the tourney team championship.
 
There were 68 total boys’ golfers, and 23 girls competed in the field.
 
Union City will host its first home match of the 2018 campaign, welcoming Obion County Central to Poplar Meadows Thursday afternoon at 4.
 
The Union City Middle School softball team begins its season today with a trip to Camden.
 
Thursday will be a busy day for UC sports teams as, in addition to the aforementioned golf match, the middle school football team will open its year at Mayfield, Ky., and the high school volleyball team will debut at Westview.
 

Tornado baseball team
To benefit from fundraiser at Don Sol
 
The UCHS baseball team and Don Sol are teaming to host a fundraiser today.
Don Sol will donate a portion of sales from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. to the team.
There will also be a silent auction with a huge variety of items offered for bid from 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
Among those items up for bid are:
UT/Alabama tickets with parking pass
Kentucky Lake boat cruise
Costa Sunglasses
Yeti 35 quart, Limited Edition
Tennessee Titans Derrick Henry signed football
Titleist Pro V1 golf balls
Cakes and baked goods
Jewelry and clothing
