Huntingdon, Tenn.—A bond hearing for the Carroll County couple charged with some 300 counts of animal cruelty has been set for Monday, August 6, in Carroll County Circuit Court in Huntingdon.
Tara Neutzler and Donald Schoenthal appeared in court on an initial appearance last week. The pair were arrested after the Carroll Co. Sheriff’s Office and the Animal Rescue Corps of Washington, D.C., conducted a raid on their property in April in Atwood, finding dozens of animals in either stages of dying or already dead. The animals included domesticated, farm and exotic animals, including a zebra that was found dead.
Live and dead animals were kept in the same cages.
Both Neutzler and Schoenthal were charged with animal cruelty as well as child abuse/neglect and endangerment. They are being represented by Attorney D.J. Norton.
Dozens of animals were seized and are being cared for by the Animal Rescue Corps, which has filed a motion to be reimbursed for money that is being used to care for the animals. ARC says it is currently spending about $2,500 a day for the care of the seized animals.
