Henry, Tenn.—Tosh Farms in Henry has issued a statement in response to a video that was released by Mercy For Animals which shows undercover footage of brutal treatment of pigs and piglets at the Tosh Farms facility in Kentucky.
The footage has been distributed widely and has been the subject of articles in The Tennessean and several Kentucky publications.
Mercy For Animals says it conducted an undercover investigation at a Franklin, Ky., facility owned by the Tennessee-based pig farm.
Louisville’s JBS Swift pork processing plant has suspended pig shipments from the Kentucky farm after Mercy for Animals released the video Monday, that allegedly shows pigs being mistreated.
Here is the Tosh Pork press release in its entirety:
“Tosh Pork Release –
Several actions were identified today that were outside of our written company policy and on-farm training. Immediate intervention has occurred this morning via a third-party veterinarian who specializes in animal care training.
During the complete examination of all animals on-site today, the veterinarian observed no on-going animal care issues. In response to advice from this audit, we are immediately –
1. Addressing animal care and handling issues via re-training of our staff.
2. Implementing short and long-term plans to ensure animal welfare policy re-training and compliance.
Tosh Pork takes seriously our ethical responsibility for the proper care of pigs. As a U.S. pork producer, we are committed to producing safe, wholesome pork in a socially responsible way, and no one cares more than our family about taking care of our animals, natural resources, and contributing to local communities.
Our goal is to always find ways to improve our practices and provide the best possible care for our animals.”
